Kardashians Donate $500,000 to Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

The Kardashians have stepped up to the plate in a huge way to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell us Kim, Kris, Khloe, Kendall, Kylie and Kourtney gave $500,000 to The Red Cross and The Salvation Army Tuesday. We’re told the money will be wired and will be split evenly.

The Kardashians were touched by the courage and bravery of those in Houston battling the storm and those helping with relief efforts.

The donation is one of a number made by celebs since Kevin Hart started a movement Monday challenging other Hollywood heavyweights to pitch in.

With a tropical storm continuing to devastate residents of Houston, Texas, the 38-year-old comedian launched the Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge Monday to support relief efforts in the area.He donated $25,000 and asked Beyoncé, Dave Chappelle, Jay-Z, Dwayne Johnson, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and Justin Timberlake to match his donation.

“Keep your head up Houston and keep your faith,” Hart wrote Tuesday. “I love you all and my prayers are with you!”

In 18 hours, Hart’s CrowdRise page has received $291,274 in donations from 2,154 people.

Kardashian-Jenner Family Donates 100 Gourmet, Chef-Prepared Meals

The KarJenner krew got into the holiday spirit this year.

The famous family, led by momager Kris Jenner and her boyfriend Corey Gamble, surprised the staff at Red Eye — a non-profit organization that focuses on humanitarian work in the entertainment industry — with one special Christmas donation.

According to the organization’s Instagram account, which is run by executive director Justin Mayo, the family donated 100 gourmet, chef-prepared meals to people in need on Skid Row, an impoverished area in downtown Los Angeles, California.

“Got a Christmas call from Jenner / Kardashian Home saying they wanted to donate some food… 100 gourmet chef prepared meals for those on Skid Row,” wrote Mayo. “No publicity. No press release. Simply an amazing family loving their city.”

“Their whole family continues to do amazing acts of generosity with our charity Red Eye without ever notifying anyone,” Mayo tells PEOPLE in a statement. “I simply spoke of such because I feel it would be good for people to see this side of this amazing family.”

According to Mayo, the meals donated consisted of wide range of food from fine meats, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, all put together to create the perfect Christmas meal. Even those with a sweet tooth were surprised with decorated gingerbread cookies and frosted snacks.

“This is not even close to the first time they have contributed to those on Skid Row or the kids Red Eye mentors every week in Watts over the past 10 years,” says Mayo, noting the charity’s Red Eye’s Mothers Day Makeovers on Skid Row, which gifts hair, makeup, nails, clothing and cosmetic swag bags for the women living on the streets of Skid Row.

“If it wasn’t for this family’s generosity of over $50,000 in new product for the women, events like Red Eye’s 10 year tradition of such would not be possible,” says Mayo.

Prizeo.com, the charity-fundraising digital platform, today announced their official U.S. launch with a roster of major celebrities who will run charity campaigns on the site this summer, including Muhammad Ali, Alicia Keys, Michael Phelps, Kristen Bell and Khloe Kardashian — along with an Oscar-winning actress and one of the world’s most popular music groups to be announced at a later date.

Prizeo’s unique micro-donation model lets fans buy chances to win once-in-a-lifetime experiences with their favorite celebrities whose charities benefit from the online campaigns that run live on Prizeo.com. Fans who give at certain, specified donation levels are also eligible for exclusive rewards ranging from autographed items to exclusive campaign t-shirts.

Prizeo democratizes fundraising by transforming the traditional celebrity-auction model — once limited to a select group of privileged bidders — into an instantly accessible digital campaign that’s open to anyone who pays the entry fee: a mere $3 donation. The platform also enables stars to maximize the benefits their social-media influence can deliver on behalf of charities.

A Y Combinator-backed startup, Prizeo is the preferred digital platform for William Morris Endeavor client charitable initiatives, in addition to collaborating with Lady Gaga’s management agency, Atom Factory.

Alicia Keys says: “I’m very passionate about the work we do at Keep A Child Alive. Partnering with Prizeo really allows us to share the incredible mission of KCA with a wider audience and also gives me a whole new way to connect with my fans at the same time. My hope is that we inspire people all over the world to come together and bring about change in a huge way.”

“Prizeo’s tools let celebrities and influencers connect directly with their fans in a more meaningful way,” says co-founder Leo Seigal. “By offering creative and unique prize experiences, stars get to highlight causes close to their hearts and mobilize fans toward a common good.”

“We are thrilled to join with Prizeo to raise both funds for and awareness of the Muhammad Ali Center,” says Ali’s wife, Lonnie. “The Center’s mission is to preserve and share the legacy and ideals of Muhammad Ali, to promote respect, hope and understanding, and to inspire adults and children everywhere to be as great as they can be. So it was important to us to work with a highly inclusive platform like Prizeo so that we can involve a maximum number of Muhammad’s fans who have been so inspired by him.”

In late 2012, Prizeo launched as a beta site with a series of successful local campaigns before commencing international ones with Jamie Oliver, who raised $184,000 on behalf of his food-education foundations, and Samuel L. Jackson, whose much-publicized Reddit contest drove record traffic to Prizeo.com where donations to Jackson’s chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Association, surpassed $160,000.

“I’m in this to make a real difference,” Jackson says. “The work of the Alzheimer’s Association is so important to me. I’m using Prizeo for my fundraising because it’s a platform where I could use the power of social media to reach many more people than by any other means. And Prizeo’s micro-donation model makes it possible for almost anyone to participate. ”

About the upcoming Prizeo campaigns announced today (grand-prize and rewards info, except in regards to the Alicia Keys campaign, will be announced soon):

  • Alicia Key’s campaign will benefit Keep A Child Alive, which provides treatment, support, nutrition and love to children and families affected by HIV in Africa and India. The campaign will run from June 5 to July 15, 2013 with a grand prize of a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Donor gifts include an exclusive campaign t-shirt ($40 or more), an autographed photo of Keys ($100); an autographed Keys songbook ($200), and even a handwritten card from Alicia herself. Plus, the campaign’s top “sharer” — i.e., the person who get the most friends to donate by sharing a personal link via Facebook and Twitter — will receive the new Blackberry 10 phone, while three runners-up will each get an autographed pair of sneakers from Keys’ Reebok line.
  • Muhammad Ali’s campaign will benefit the Muhammad Ali Center, a multicultural center with an award-winning museum that has a mission of preserving and sharing the legacy and ideals of Ali, promoting respect, hope and understanding, and inspiring adults and children everywhere to be as great as they can be.
  • Michael Phelps’s campaign will benefit the Michael Phelps Foundation, which is focused on growing the sport of swimming and promoting healthy and active lives, especially for children.
  • Kristen Bell’s campaign will benefit Invisible Children, which seeks to bring a permanent end to atrocities in East and central Africa relating to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).
  • Khloe Kardashian’s campaign will benefit the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), whose mission is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on earth.

Grand-prize winners are chosen at random and notified within days of a campaign’s closing. For full contest rules, see http://www.prizeo.com/terms-and-conditions
