To say a lot has happened to Khloé Kardashian recently is an almost absurd understatement. First, there’s the family stuff: On their reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, cameras caught Khloé’s emotional journey to accepting Caitlyn Jenner’s transformation. That dust settled. Then Khloé’s estranged husband, Lamar Odom, was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel. Lamar’s hospitalization happened just two weeks after REDBOOK talked with and Khloé but when he did, her love for both Caitlyn and Lamar was poignantly clear—as was her strength and her capacity to do so much at once.
Right now she’s in front of the cameras for 12 hours almost every day for television. She just released Strong Looks Better Naked, a memoir/guide about what she’s learned in her very busy life so far, and her new talk show, Kocktails With Khloé, is set to debut in December on the FYI network. It’s a lot for anyone to manage. But on the day we spoke to her in her Calabasas, CA, home, she was barefoot, serene, and she looked right where she wants to be: comfortably taking the lead in her own life. Listen in.
On accusations of fake body parts and plastic surgery… « When I started working out, it wasn’t about weight loss; I was going through a really hard time and needed an emotional release. Once you start getting in the tabloids claiming you have fake body parts, then it’s like, ‘Okay, I made it. Now I’m really working out.’ Kourtney said yesterday, ‘I got so happy because someone said I had butt implants.’ And I was like, ‘Doesn’t it make you feel good?’ She’s like, ‘I really feel good. I’ve got to keep it up!' »
On Lamar... »My biggest wish is for him to be happy. I still have a great deal of love for him. »
On having a tough time with Caitlyn Jenner’s transition…« It was difficult for me that Bruce wasn’t honest with me. The transition had nothing to do with it. I love Caitlyn. She still likes us to call her our dad, but it’s hard when, you know, Dad’s now wearing a dress. »
On how it is for her boyfriend, James Harden, to be in such a public relationship…« Our family brings a different amount of—not fame—attention. Instead of just being known for his talent, he’s now known for being someone’s boyfriend. We’re used to it, but for a person new to this, I’m like: ‘Oh, God. I’m sorry.' »
